Pye Corner House Cotswolds Gardening

A note from Tara King

“When my parents bought Pye Corner House in 1997, we were so lucky to have inherited a team of people including our beloved gardener, Tim Clapham who started his nearly 40 year career as a gardener working for a company called Graduate Gardeners who looked after the garden at Pye Corner for the previous owner, Michael Naylor.

Tim does so much more than just maintain our two acres of formal gardens and one acre Orchard. He has helped us transform the garden over the past three decades creating the parterre garden with our late mother amongst other things. One of his favourite jobs and sources of great pride is to maintain the century old topiary throughout the garden. Literally everything I know about English country gardens, I have learnt from Tim. An incredibly modest and gentle man in every sense of the word he’s more than our head gardener,  he is family.

Guests at Pye Corner will see him and his team every week on a Wednesday quietly tending the lawns, pruning the shrubs and maintaining the abundant herbaceous borders and entire gardens to immaculate standard.”

A stone cottage with a sloped roof and small dormer windows, surrounded by lush greenery and flowering plants, with a well-maintained lawn in the foreground.
Purple spherical flowers in a garden with green foliage, red flowers, and a blurred background of trees and a pond or water feature.

Our well-tended gardens are a labour of love, framed by heritage topiary and full of English country charm. Part manicured and part wild, they perfectly complement the character of the main house with its beautiful wisteria-clad stone walls.

Quaint gravel pathways lead to a traditional parterre garden with well-pruned shrubbery that contrasts exquisitely with a romantic pear arbour and flower-cutting garden. Herbaceous borders burst with English country champions of foxgloves, lavenders, hydrangeas, roses and dahlias, while seasonal delights like rhubarb, pears, apples, plums, and walnuts can be foraged for supper. There is simply so much to see and do.

Explore the cedar-shingled summerhouse, discover the restored Victorian greenhouse, dine al fresco on the patio, play croquet on the lawn, retrieve mint for Pimms from our well-stocked herb garden, or stargaze at night beside the fire pit and the babbling stream. Our tamed wilderness offers guests all they need to relax and escape…
